Knowing how to create a study guide is super important when preparing for an upcoming quiz, exam or final. In order to able to create a study guide, you should also master taking notes during a lecture as well as taking notes from a textbook. Perfecting both of these skills will make it extremely easy to compile a study guide.
Check out some of the Flashnotes.com tips on how to create a great study guide:
Pick a study guide format/layout. Are you more of a visual learner? Consider color coding sections. If you have more of a liner mind, putting information in a specific order (alphabetically or chronologically) can allow you to learn all the information in a series and then move onto the next. Let your way of processing information dictate the way your study guide is complied and laid out.
Covering all the material. What material is your exam going to cover? A great place to start is asking your professor directly. After consulting with your professor, check out your notes and handouts. Remember when your professor said a topic or question was very likely to show up on your next exam? Find those notes and make sure to add them to your study guide!
Enhance your material. Use the notes you took from class as the framework and provide more detail with those notes you took from your textbook. Utilize your past homework assignments as well as sample questions that can be found at the end of each textbook chapter, unless your professor says otherwise.
Focus on the main concepts of each chapter and lecture. Avoid rewriting the textbook. Make sure your study guide highlights the key aspects of each lecture and chapter. When glancing at each concept, make sure you are able to gather the main takeaways.
Leave room for additional notes. This is pretty explanatory. You should always leave room for note taking. This is especially key if you are selling your notes or study guides on Flashnotes.com, as some students may experience more difficulty with a topic and may need the extra room to their notes.
